Overview

Many tools in the CLE allow you to add an attachment.  In these tools,  you may add any number of attachments in a wide variety of different formats. These attachments may be any combination of files on your desktop, web sites, and items stored in Resources. To add an attachment, click the Add Attachments button. The CLE displays the Add Attachment screen.

The maximum size of an attachment is set by your system administrator. The default is 20 MB.

Uploading a Local File

The instructions given below generally apply to adding/uploading a file to the Resources tool as well as adding an attachment.

25  After the CLE displays the Add Attachments screen, you may attach a file from your computer by browsing and selecting a file name. To do so, follow these steps:

1     Click Browse...

Your computer displays its File Upload window. That window may look something like this:

2     Click the file you want to upload and click Open. The CLE briefly displays this message:

When the file has been uploaded, in the “Items to attach” area near the top of the screen, the CLE displays the name of the file with an icon to its left.

3     If desired, view the uploaded file by clicking its name. Or, to remove it, click the Remove link.

4     After you have selected all items you want to attach, click Continue.

Attaching a URL

26  After the CLE displays the Add Attachments screen, you may attach a URL. To do so, follow these steps:

1     In the or a URL (link to web site) box, enter the URL.

Specify the URL you want to attach.

2     Click Add. The CLE displays the URL in the “Items to attach” area near the top of the screen with an icon next to its name.

3     Optionally, to view the URL, click the link for it. Or, to remove this attachment, click the Remove link.

4     After you have selected all items you want to attach, click Continue.

Selecting an Item from Resources

The instructions below do not apply to adding items in ePortfolio tools. For instructions on adding items from Resources to an ePortfolio tool, see Selecting an Item from Resources for Use in ePortfolios.

If you have not yet added the appropriate file to Resources, add the file or URL as instructed in Adding Files or Attaching a URL.

27  After the CLE displays the Add Attachments screen, you may attach files from your Resources tool. To do so, follow these steps in the “Select a resource” section of the screen:

1     If the main folder for the appropriate site is not displayed, click the right-facing arrow () for “Show other sites.” The CLE displays folders for all sites you belong to.

2     Find the appropriate folder and click to open it.

3     Click the Attach a copy link for the file(s) you want to attach.

The CLE displays the file name in the Items to Attach area near the top of the screen.

4     After you have selected all items you want to attach, click Continue.

Selecting an Item from Resources for Use in ePortfolios

In order to create forms, wizards, and other structures, you need to select files and other items from the Resources area in My Workspace or the Resources area in one of your course, project, or portfolio sites.

If you have not yet added the appropriate file to Resources, add the file as instructed in Adding Files.

28    When you click the Select File link, the system automatically displays the Add Attachment screen.

29  This screen displays the contents of the Resources area for the site you are currently working in.

1     If the item you need is stored in the Resources area on another site in which you are a member, click the arrow for Show other sites.

2     Find the appropriate item and click the Select link for it. The CLE displays your selection near the top of the screen, under “Items to attach:”

The selected item is displayed.

3     Choose one of the following options:

     If this is the file you want, click Continue. The CLE displays the screen you were last working in.

     If this is the wrong file, click the Remove link for it and select another file as instructed above.

     To exit without selecting a file, click Cancel. The CLE displays the screen you were last working in.
